Was ist die Alexander – Technik?

The beauty of life with the Alexander Technique – and as such its challenge – is that each moment reveals itself as an opportunity for clarity. Every lesson offers further insight into the many facets of the human condition, and provides a richer understanding of who and what we are.

In the dynamic discourse then between oneself and the world around, the Alexander Technique enables you to find an authentic presence to participate within it. Life reveals itself as an ongoing dialogue, creative and sustaining, supportive of growth and the vital development of all involved.

All activities call for engagement requiring commitment, relating and an appropriate tension. Responding however to the stress of contemporary life, most of us go about our daily activities exerting excessive effort, functioning through stereotypical reaction patterns and responding with an unduly extreme tension. For reasons mostly hidden to us, we disturb and even impair our ability to function freely and efficiently. The effects can be unsettling and at times far-reaching, causing pain, disappointment, confusion and disorientation, sickness, chronic illness, even the end of a carrier or a meaningful relationship.

The individual is a holistic system of mind and body; at its core is a capacity for self-regulation, recovery and healing. Our inability to discern and employ a constructive manner of engagement with the world, one which genuinely supports our needs and intentions, interferes with and severely compromises our awareness of ourselves and the world around us. Imperceptibly, our sensory perceptions become distorted and the way we use ourselves exaggerated. An often mechanical, habitual manner takes the place of a sensory engagement with the world; we lose the sensibility and flexibility of a creative manner of being.

The Alexander Technique raises the standard of sensory awareness so we can perceive inappropriate response patterns and decide not to employ them. Interaction becomes a conscious event, expanding awareness and enhancing presence, calling for commitment without fixity, a sustainable communication and an authentic participation beyond the bounds of conditioning.
